Running

I am a runner. Writing this makes me sound so dedicated. And fast. Neither of which really define me. I am consistent though. I made a commitment to myself to increase my weekly cardiovascular and strength training regiments a few years ago and stuck with it. I was at zero in 2010. Life got in the way and ‘busy’ took over and excuses crept in. 1/1/2011 I started with stretching and could not even run a .25 lap around the track. I was embarrassed to be so out of shape. I looked in shape, but was not physically strong, and fast any longer. I was also not ready to chalk it up to being older. Don’t tell my dogs, but I run without them. They would not understand. I run 3-10 miles every week on a treadmill, and then I push weights around. I understand how hard it is...

CrossFit Games – Regionals 2012

CDR: Consistency. Determination. Results. CDR members will say they don’t just run through Redlands, they CDR it, and that’s some crazy hard workouts. All that hard work was put to the test this past weekend. Thirty teams started on Friday and by Sunday the top twelve best scoring teams were competing for one of three spots at the national CrossFit games. It was pretty exciting to see multiple women (shorter than me) perform an olympic power snatch that weighed more me. CrossFit CDR from Redlands, California is one of the three teams to advance to nationals, thanks to CDR owners and trainers Calvin and Rachel Davis. The national competition will be held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California on the weekend of July 13-14, 2012. At the CrossFit...

Run For Your Life!!

Recently I’ve blogged about some great causes that have held a 5K. The current cause is needy children in San Benardino and the opportunity to run Route 66 5K. Maybe you need more inspiration to dust off your jogging shoes. According to Dr. Peter Schnorhr, chief cardiologist from the Copenhagen Heart Study, found jogging was associated with a 44% reduction in the risk of death compared to non-runners. Basically, joggers live an average of 6 more years than non-joggers/runners! But, they get more than a longer life. People who ran/jogged also reported an overall sense of well being. The researchers found the optimum benefit came from people who jogged at a slow-to-average pace for 1 to 2.5 hours each week. These revelations are the latest research from the...

Confetti Cake & Route 66

I have a huge sweeth tooth. I usually curb it by avoiding the cookies and ice cream aisles at the grocery store. This weekend I was in the mood for sweets and decided on a Dairy Queen Blizzard. But, it was not any Blizzard. I enjoyed the ‘Blizzard of the Month‘ and it tasted AMAZING! Its called Confetti Cake. It’s a cup of frozen creamy goodness that made me think of eating a birthday cake. I’ve been to Dairy Queen before, but the Blizzard of the Month never caught my attention. But it gets two enthusiastic thumbs up from me. In fact, the Confetti Cake Blizzard had me going back for seconds – in the same weekend! Athough, trip two was initiated by a commercial, after I knew how yummy it tasted. So, I now put off is fabulous treat...
