5K For the Love of a Child

The Kappa Delta’s of California State University San Bernardinohave announced their 3rd annual Shamrock 5K. The event’s purpose is to raise awareness and money for child abuse. Scenery and Course It’s not flat – so many folks find the course is interesting and enjoyable. There is a slight climb as you run/walk around the back of the CSUSB campus. The campus is nestled at the base of the San Bernardino mountains, so don’t be surprised if a bunny runs across the trail, or a hawk is circling overhead. Weather We are expecting high 60′s or low 70′s, with sunshine and a slight breeze. I’m not sure it can get any better! Advocacy and Awareness About Child Abuse The money raised is given to the Childhelp Village in...

Get fit and feel EPIC!

Here we are one month into the new year, and I’ve been busier than usual. If you know me, this speaks volumes. Without boring you with the details, my workout routine has been neglected. Many of you are probably saying, “so what.” But, I made a new year’s resolution in 2011 to exercise regularly again, as I had become a desk jockey. I stick to and achieve all goals I’ve set (I think). So, I need to reprioritize. In 2011, I could type for hours on end, finish projects under looming deadlines, but I couldn’t even run a lap (.25 mile). So, I set about to change that. My endurance increased, and I heard of a local 5K. As the date got closer, I made a time goal of 36 minutes, because I was jogging that speed. The day of the race, I was nervous, but excited. I...

Running

I am a runner. Writing this makes me sound so dedicated. And fast. Neither of which really define me. I am consistent though. I made a commitment to myself to increase my weekly cardiovascular and strength training regiments a few years ago and stuck with it. I was at zero in 2010. Life got in the way and ‘busy’ took over and excuses crept in. 1/1/2011 I started with stretching and could not even run a .25 lap around the track. I was embarrassed to be so out of shape. I looked in shape, but was not physically strong, and fast any longer. I was also not ready to chalk it up to being older. Don’t tell my dogs, but I run without them. They would not understand. I run 3-10 miles every week on a treadmill, and then I push weights around. I understand how hard it is...

Did somebody spike my coffee?!?!

Did somebody spike my coffee?!?!

This morning I am deliriously happy. No reason. Everything is pretty much the same. Nobody has announced a pregnancy (besides Wills & Kate), had a baby, got engaged or married. There has not been any major event to bring it on; I didn’t win the lottery (was I supposed to buy tickets??), my next paper is being finalized but not finished, I was not blessed with a new client last night, I didn’t run this morning – in fact, yesterdays run was sluggish and I haven’t even started learning my dance routine for the 4/20 headdress ball BTW: Please like their Facebook page while you are here. Because I have no reason to be THIS DARN HAPPY, I thought I better pass it along. You all deserve to have this feeling. A feeling of freedom, lightness and wanting to go play. I...

Road ID

Are you a cyclist or runner? You may want to consider getting a Road ID for peace of mind while exercising on the road. Each year, athletes who thought it would never happen to them end up in the hospital as a John or Jane Doe, because they were in an accident without identification. Distracted drivers. Dogs. Loose gravel. Big Foot? OK, maybe not Big Foot. The if an athlete (professional, amateur or weekend warrior), is wearing a Road ID and has an accident, it will be a lifeline to proper medical treatment and a way to contact your family. There are a variety of designs you can choose from: durable bracelets, shoe pouch, shoe ID, or a necklace/dog tags. All these items can be engraved with your identification and contact information for a couple family members....
