The weather was perfect for the Kappa Delta 5K for Childhelp. Sunny, with a slight breeze. Last year, they raised over $11,000 toward the treatment and prevention of child abuse. They hope to raise more this year. But it was mire than a 5K, it was days of advocacy and awareness about child abuse and neglect. On Wednesday night, the men from the fraternity’s completed in a talent contest, on Thursday it was a visit to the Lisa Project. Visitors heard the story through children’s voices and on Friday night they gave power point educational presentations. The judges were provided by members of Childhelp Inland Empire:Tracy Wilhide, Jill Robinson, Jordyn Prather and JoAnn VonWald judged Wednesday night, and Tracy Wilhide, Joe Arnett, and Margie Arnett were the Friday night judges; along with a guest, attorney Mike Razo. The winner was crowned King Shamrock. The most impressive part, was witnessing the testimony off young man who through the competition, realized he had been verbally abusive toward others and vowed to change his ways.

On Saturday, 10 of us represented Inland Empire in the 5k. Custom team t-shirts were created by Laser Craft . The course was much harder than I expected. I ran the Tinman Triathlon, which includdCSUSB once before at the 2011 Tin Man triathlon – but in the opposite direction (starting west and traveling east around the back of campus). Starting east was much more difficult, with a longer uphill westwardly climb. I was disappointed I had to walk at times. Now, my goal is to run the entire course next year. Afterward the group enjoyed breakfast at DJ’s – not quite ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ – but possibly more fun.

Childhelp Inland Empire has 2 events coming up. We are creating Easter baskets for the kids The Village soon. On April 14, we are holding a fashion show at the Orange Show along with a boutique. They are also accepting new members. To participate on any
level, please contact President Tracy Wilhide at 909-771-9417.
